What Constitutes an Initial Physiotherapy Consultation?
An initial physiotherapy consultation at Well Motion Physiotherapy & Allied Health is designed for the assessment and treatment of a new condition or complaint. This is your first appointment with us, where your physiotherapist will evaluate your health concerns, perform an assessment, and develop a tailored treatment plan.
If you return after a significant lapse of time—typically greater than 3 months—unless otherwise agreed upon with your physiotherapist, a new initial consultation will be required. Follow-up consultations for ongoing treatment of the same condition are considered standard physiotherapy consultations.
What If I Have Multiple Injuries Requiring Physiotherapy?
At Well Motion Physiotherapy & Allied Health, our initial and standard physiotherapy consultations are designed to assess and treat a single complaint. If you have multiple injuries or conditions that require attention, please inform us in advance so we can allocate the appropriate amount of time for your appointment.
In this case, an extended physiotherapy consultation will be scheduled to ensure all of your concerns are addressed. Additional fees may apply for extended consultations.

Other Questions
Do I Need a Referral from a Doctor?
At Well Motion Physiotherapy & Allied Health, a referral is not required for private patients seeking physiotherapy services, as our physiotherapists are primary allied health professionals. However, a referral may be necessary if you are eligible for workers’ compensation, compulsory third-party (CTP) claims, Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), or Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) programs.
If you’re unsure whether a referral is required for your specific case, feel free to contact us for clarification.
Is Physiotherapy Covered by Medicare Australia?
At Well Motion Physiotherapy & Allied Health, Medicare Australia offers a subsidy for up to 5 physiotherapy sessions under the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) scheme for eligible individuals with chronic conditions or chronic pain lasting over 6 months. To access this benefit, you must obtain a referral from your doctor.
It’s important to note that Medicare will not cover the full cost of physiotherapy. There will be a GAP fee, which is the difference between the Medicare rebate and the cost of your session.
If you think you may be eligible for this subsidy, please discuss it with your doctor and contact us to book your physiotherapy consultation.
When Should I Arrive for My First Appointment?
At Well Motion Physiotherapy & Allied Health, we recommend arriving at least 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment. - Lower Limb Complaints: We recommend wearing shorts or similar attire that allows easy access to your legs, knees, or feet.
- Shoulder or Neck Complaints: For shoulder or neck issues, we suggest that female patients wear a singlet top or something similar, which will allow the physiotherapist to easily assess your upper body.
- Footwear: It may also be important for your physiotherapist to assess your footwear (e.g. work shoes, running shoes, or sports shoes) to determine if they are contributing to your condition. Please bring them with you.

Why Can’t My Child (Under 18 Years of Age) Attend Physiotherapy on Their Own?
At Well Motion Physiotherapy & Allied Health, we have a policy in place that requires any patient under the age of 18 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian during their physiotherapy consultations. This policy ensures compliance with medicolegal, privacy, and confidentiality regulations.
For patients under 18, informed consent must be obtained from both the child and their parent or guardian before treatment can proceed. This is essential to ensure that both parties understand the treatment plan and consent to the physiotherapy services being provided.
We appreciate your understanding in helping us uphold the safety and privacy of all our patients.
Do You Charge a Non-Attendance/Cancellation Fee?
At Well Motion Physiotherapy & Allied Health, we understand that sometimes life can get in the way of scheduled appointments. However, because our physiotherapists dedicate individualised time for each patient, last-minute cancellations or missed appointments can be challenging to fill.
To ensure that we continue to provide the highest quality of care to all of our patients, we charge a non-attendance/cancellation fee of $90.00 for appointments that are either missed or cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled time.
We encourage patients to give as much notice as possible if they need to reschedule or cancel, allowing us to offer the appointment slot to others in need of care.
